Ken Rader Interiors-"What color for your home office"

Home Office Paint Selections

By Ken Rader Interiors- Painters in Northwest Arkansas

Aside from the feel and general appearance that you would want to create in your home office, the choice of paint colors likewise put on a great effect on your productivity rate when it comes to your working place. There are types of paint colors which function to motivate while there are those which appear distracting indeed. Take note that you need to use proper colors that would blend in with your intention to create a better environment for your working place.

The Cool Colors
The cool colors include the greens, blues, purples, and the likes which somewhat appear passive by nature as they recede in the backgrounds. They never have the ability to disturb or distract you. These cooler hues also help out in quieting the nerves, soothing the soul, and lifting a downtrodden spirit. In a psychological manner, these cool colors are inherently meditative and calming thereby leading to a deep concentration.
Green, the Color of Nature

The color green is closely associated with nature itself. It is very natural, rejuvenating, and restful in attribute. The home office paint color green is said to be one of the best since it is related to the goals of creativity and thinking profitably. Most study halls and offices are employed with a touch of green. The color green is also said to promote harmony and balance. It is also helpful in easing out stress.
The Warm Colors

The warm colors include the yellows, reds, and oranges. They are the active and lively hues which look like moving towards your direction and hence rooms painted with them seem cozy and a lot intimate. The warm colors are truly invigorating and cheerful. These hues are perfect to be used for the areas being occupied by people who want much stimulation from the workplace. These colors are said to be very helpful in awakening the mind as well as enlivening the spirit. However, due to the lively character of these hues, they may sometimes tend to become distracting.
The Whites

White always stands as a symbol of purity and peace. Smaller areas tend to appear spacious with the use of whites. Main walls in the office areas are best off with whites.
The choice of home office paint color actually depends on your own discretion. You would have to assess your response to these colors as you select one for your home office paint.
It is important to give your home office space a little thought and get well in mind what furniture and decorating items you will be using.  You want the room to express your likes and personality.  It can be a lot of fun and when you make the right choices you will feel a sense of accomplishment and you will enjoy working in your home office space for years to come.  If that is what you want.

How to Paint the Outside of My House

HOUSE PAINTING : Male Caucasian House Painter Holding A Pail And Paintbrush Stock Photo
Ken Rader Interiors - Fayetteville, AR
Painting the exterior of your house every few years is an important step in maintaining its visual appeal. A good paint job can also extend the life of your home's siding and trim, saving you money in the long term. Getting the job done right involves more than just applying a new coat of paint to your home's exterior. It requires careful planning and prep work. Follow the steps outlined in this guide and you will achieve professional-looking results.

Instructions

  1. Steps for Painting Home Exteriors

    • 1
Determine what color you want to paint your house. Your local paint dealer should have a variety of sample colors to choose from. If you want to keep the same color, bring a small piece of your siding and trim with you and your local paint store dealer should be able to match it.
    • 2
Estimate the amount of paint you will need to complete the job. The precise formula used will vary depending on the type of surface you are painting, but the process typically involves determining the square footage of the area to be painted. Consult with your local hardware or paint store to find exactly what formula you should be using.
    • 3
Use a scraper to remove any loose old paint from the surfaces you will be painting. Place a drop cloth beneath you to collect paint chips.  The use of a drop cloth sounds good but in reality it does not work very well.  The only time I use a drop cloth is when I want to cover shrubs, plants, sidewalks, decks and patios.  You can catch the majority of the paint chips and then just fold them up in the drop cloth and shake them out in a trash bag( a big one).
    • 4
Fill any holes and cracks in your siding and trim using an appropriate filler or caulk.   I like to use 35 year latex caulk.  There is silicone that says it can be painted but it is very difficult to use, cost more and is in my opinion,"not the product to use".  I also like to use "DAP crackshot " to fill in any holes.  It can be painted, sanded and is high performance.
    • 5
Remove any mold or mildew using a bleach-water solution or a professional-strength remover.
    • 6
Sand all surfaces to be painted smooth using sandpaper. Employ a power pad  sander to save you time and energy.  do not use a belt sander!  Few people can control the monster and most house exteriors are not smooth to begin with so don't try and make them smooth.
    • 7 Clean all surfaces to be painted using a brush or power washer.  Use the power washer only in extreme conditions.  It is very powerful and can damage your house siding.  Usually you can just take a broom and brush off the house siding.  As long is there is not any oil or grease on the surface you can prime and paint it.
    • 8  Apply the first coat of primer, let it dry according to manufacturers instructions and then apply a second coat of primer.  The primer can be mixed with exterior paint at a ration of one to one.  So if you find some exterior paint at a bargain price like an "OOPS" paint at your paint store ,"GET IT".  It is going to be covered up with your good exterior paint.  The primer is used to seal the house and provide a sound surface for your paint.  This will make your paint job last much longer.
    • 9
Apply a first coat of finish paint.  The use of an Airless paint sprayer will really help you in both the priming and painting application process.  Check in to how much it would cost you to purchase one.  It will pay for itself in the time it saves you. Airless paint sprayers put so much product on the surface that your second coat will only be a very light coat and basically to paint the spots you missed with your first coat.
    • 10
Apply a second coat of finish paint. Light coat if using an airless.  You will still need to brush some areas of the house.  Be sure to get a good 4" brush with lots of bristles (Nylon/Polyester).

Tips & Warnings

Additional tools that you will find helpful are:
1.  Masking Machine( you will find them at The Home Depot or Lowes or Ace Hardware)  cost about $50.00 but well worth it.
2.  1" masking tape and 9" masking paper ( both used on the masking machine)
3. House scraper and Wire Brush
4. A good step ladder and a good extension ladder.  ( Try the "Little Giant".  It is both an adjustable step ladder and can be used as a 22' extension ladder.  It is solid and will not throw you off like a cheap aluminum ladder will do.  Aluminum step ladders are almost alive and wild unbroken horses.
5. Box your paint.  That means mixing as many gallons together as you can, usually 5 gal. and then keep adding to to bucket as you use it.  This will make the color from one can to the next blend.  Then you won't see the difference from one gal. to the next gal.  There is always, "Always", a slight difference that can be seen if you do not mix the gallons together.
  • A variety of scraping tools are available on the market today, each designed for dealing with different situations you may encounter while removing old paint. No one scraper is likely to do it all, so purchasing multiple scrapers can make the job a lot easier. When painting, start at the top and work your way down so any paint drips won't land on a surface you've already painted.
  • Never paint a wet surface, and always check the weather before you start to paint. You should paint only when dry, sunny weather is forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours. Inhaling paint dust and fumes is hazardous to your health. Always wear protective gear, including safety goggles and a dust mask when scraping and sanding, and a vapor mask when painting. Homes built prior to 1980 may contain hazardous lead paint, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Test old paint to make sure it is not made from lead. If lead paint is present, do not proceed on your own. Contact a professional who can remove lead paint safely.
This should give you some help.  Some of the painting process you will learn as you go along.  Each project or house is unique and presents it's own problems and issues.  Just keep in mind the principles of removing loose paint, repairing, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint.
As a professional with 38 years of experience I have painted a wide variety of house surfaces.  Some good and some bad.
People always ask, " How long will it take?"
My first response if they are going to be painting the house themselves is" It's all relative".  In other words, "How many of your relatives will be helping you".  My next response is a series of questions,  " How big is the house, One story or two, How tall is it, How much surface will be painted, How many colors?
But here is a rule of thumb," A one story house with end gables about 24 feet tall that has easy access all around (not too many bushes) and of a size of about 2,000 sq. feet.  You should be able to paint the house in 5 to 7 days.  But they will be full days.  At least 6 hours of continuous work each day.
One more bit of advice:  Do one side of the house at a time.  Scrape it, repair it, caulk it, prime it and paint it.  Then move on to another side.  This will educate you about what you will need to do on each side and it will give you a goal that is attainable.  If you get called off of the project it won't look so bad and you will have a definite place to start when you get back to it.
I know you will be successful with your painting project.  Professionals make it look easy and it is for them.  The homeowner will not get as good a result as the professional but that is why you hire the professional.  However, the homeowner can do an amazing job if they are willing to take their time and follow the steps we have outlined.  DO NOT SKIP ANY OF THEM! AND DO NOT RUSH THE PROJECT!

Painting Momma's House

PAINTING MOTHERS HOUSE
TRANSFORMING THIS 40 YEAR OLD HOUSE.
By Ken Rader Interiors
Painters in Fayetteville Arkansas and serving all of Northwest Arkansas
This fall we are painting my mothers house.  We are also video taping the complete process and will post it on YouTube.
Until then I will share some photos with you to show you the progress.
We have been working on the house for 4 days.  First was the scraping of the house followed by caulking and priming.
[slideshow]
This house was painted about 15 years ago with 8 year paint.  So, it is in pretty bad shape.  It required a lot of scraping and caulking.  You can see from the pictures that most of the paint scraped off down to the wood.
This time around we are priming and sealing they siding.  You will notice that the primer is different colors, sea foam and purple.  This is the result of several tinted primers being combined.  This saves on the expense and it introduces an element of surprise and fun.  The other 2 sides of the house and the 3 car garage will be different colors of primer as well.
The color of the paint is "Carrage House"  Kind of a mossy green.  The Trim will be "Linen" and the front door will be "Red".
The siding on 2 sides have now been painted and the trim will be painted tomorrow.  We will also continue with the scraping and caulking.  We will work on the front of the house tomorrow.
The video will show the complete process as well show you all of the tools that are being used.  We will show you how to mask off the windows and fill in some big holes that the birds have made.
The paint that we are using is Behr paint and primer combination which is a real pleasure to use.  This should be the last paint job that this house will need.
Stay tuned and follow the progress to the finish.
Today is Thursday and for most it is a day off of work.  NOT FOR KEN RADER INTERIORS!  Today we continued on with the exterior house painting of my mamma's house.  Today was a big day and we are very proud of what we accomplished.
We scraped, caulked, filled some damaged places on the siding and then primed and painted the front of the house.
Two coats of primer and 2 coats of paint.
[slideshow]
Next will be the east side of the house.  Scraping, caulking, priming and painting.  Something extra that we will be doing is using a block filler/primer on the cement blocks so that they can be painted the same as the house.  The block filler/primer will make sure that the paint sticks and will not crack or fail.
Once the house is completed we will move on to the 3 car garage.
As of today we have used 15 gal. of primer and 8 gal. of paint.  As you can note, using primer cuts down on the amount of paint needed for the finish spraying.  This saves money and will help the paint job last considerably longer.
When you paint the exterior of your house you are doing more than changing colors.  You are putting on a weather proof coat that will protect the wood from further damage from sun, rain, wind or ice and severe temperatures.
We will continue to keep you up to date with the project.

Kitchen makeovers made easy!

Kitchens

Kitchens are the hub of the home, but everyone uses them differently and has a style all their own.
Decorating a kitchen in the best way is the dream of every homemaker. This is the central area of your house and hence, choosing the paint colors for kitchen can be a challenging task. While painting kitchen, there are many elements that you need to bring together and think about, making it a really tough task. Making this task easy is what this article will help you do by giving you some wonderful kitchen paint color ideas.

Paint Colors for the Kitchen

Elements to Consider
While you start working on the paint colors, you need to take into consideration a lot of elements. Starting with the kitchen cabinets, you also need to think about color of shelves, kitchen island and dining table. Kitchen cabinets occupy a major area of your kitchen, hence matching paint colors with these is a must for right kitchen decor. You can have the kitchen cabinets painted in dual colors, both or one of these matching with the paint colors used for the kitchen. The color of dining tables and chairs (if you already have this set) also needs to go well with the walls. Next, the kitchen tiles must be in shades that match with the paint colors for kitchens.

Color Schemes
Finding the right kitchen colors depends on the mood you want to create in this area. Well, the homemaker's choice must be given priority, as she will be using this area the most. For a calming effect, you need to consider cool shades and for a lively effect, go for the bold shades. You can use colors like yellow, off-white, beige, cool shades of red, pale blue or green, best ones to paint the kitchen walls. Color schemes can consist of dual tone walls with one of the above colors paired with off-white or white. Chocolate brown and beige also make a great looking kitchen color scheme. For a lively effect, paint the walls in gaudy colors like hot red, bright pink, violet, magenta, chocolate, orange and black. For the jazzy look you can consider color combos like hot red and gray, black and violet or magenta, orange and black or black and a hint of bright green.

Using the Colors in Right Percentage
One of the kitchen paint ideas is that you must have 75% of the kitchen colored in the main color and 25% of it colored in a shade used to neutralize the effect, while you want to have a lively effect. Like in case of color schemes where you have black, it must cover at least 75% of the kitchen. This is essential to get the perfect feel. In case you are creating a calming effect, you can have the two shades in equal percentage. This way you can use same color combination to create different effects. Like a combo of magenta and off white, violet color spanning 75% of the kitchen and off-white spanning rest 25% will give a flashy look to the area. Same colors used in equal ratio will give you a considerable cool effect. While you work on this, you should also consider the aforementioned elements like kitchen cabinets, dining table and wall tiles to have the desired effect.

Consider Wall Textures
You can get the walls textured. Faux finishing techniques are best to highlight the focal wall of your kitchen or dining area. Use it to beautify the wall behind the dining table or enhance a large or small wall that is least cluttered. You can opt for sponge finish, ragging or combing or any of the best painting techniques for walls. With these you can have the liberty of using some unique shades like golden and silver or silvery green.

With the aforementioned ideas you are sure to have a pretty cooking and dining area ready. Think which colors you will love to have and see in your kitchen and then proceed. Have a classic colored kitchen ready.

Kitchen Color Schemes

There are many color schemes for kitchen. You can follow rules for a specific scheme, or break the rules and paint the kitchen in a new scheme. Here, are some popular ideas of kitchen schemes with pictures. Click on the images to view them large-sized.

Contemporary Scheme

Modern kitchens have either light-colored tiles, or medium-dark wooden flooring. Silver, or chrome are popular for handles and kitchen sinks. So, if you want to opt for a contemporary kitchen, the main focus should be on balancing things out. To balance the darkness of the furniture, paint the walls in light shades and vice versa. To complement the kitchen with black appliances, use a box-shaped table or kitchen islands. Along with the black appliances, you can also use chrome or silver handles and taps. Finally, to add balance to the bold black appliances in this kitchen, use soft and light-colored kitchen towels and curtains. For kitchen schemes with white cabinets, paint the walls a warm beige shade, which will highlight the color of the cabinets.
Tuscan Scheme
This kitchen design is a great choice for kitchen remodeling. Using this color scheme for kitchens is like imitating nature. To give your kitchen a Tuscan look, use colors like brown, green, red, or yellow on the walls. Use a stucco texture for a Tuscan scheme effect. Opt for light-colored curtains of Tuscan striped or checked pattern. Use wall tiles which have floral designs. Hang copper vessels for display. Accentuate the theme by adding wooden kitchen furniture. As a final touch, place a large-sized copper pot on the table.

Country Scheme
French country kitchen color designs are quite popular. This kitchen scheme gives an inviting and warm look. Use off-white color and stucco texture for the ceiling. Paint the walls in a butter-colored shade of yellow. Select weathered and stained cabinets. Display copper cookware in the kitchen, and use terracotta tiles. For the kitchen countertop, use earthy granite. Finally decorate with wrought iron chairs and a chandelier.

Choosing Scheme Using Software

Given above were the various tips on selecting the right kitchen scheme, and various popular kitchen schemes. If you have decided what sort of color scheme you want for you kitchen, then go with it. However, if still some doubt is lingering then consider using a software to try out various colors for your kitchen. Just search online for kitchen color scheme software, and you will come across many useful software. Download a trial version of any suitable software and upload your kitchen photos in it. User gets the choice to upload many photos. Once you have uploaded your photos, select individual walls or cabinets or other items in the kitchen and change their shade or colors. Combine colors together to see which colors look best together, try monochromatic schemes too. After experimenting with various color combinations you will come to realize the best possible color scheme for your kitchen. Save these files and then use them a reference when painting kitchen.
These were the most popular and preferred color schemes for kitchens. You can also try other themes like Italian or farmhouse. Choose a semi-gloss finish for the walls, after you are done painting the walls. Select sturdy flooring and furniture for the kitchen. So, transform your normal kitchen with any one of these attractive color schemes for kitchens, and enjoy the compliments you will get from everybody!

HAPPY PAINTING AND DECORATING!

Warm Up Your Homes Interior For Fall by Bonnie P Carrier

As the temperature outside begins to drop, bring warmth to every room in your home with Fall Decor

Living & Family Room:

Get cozy while you spend time with family and friends watching movies, playing games or just watching the leaves turn color.

  • Replace lighter summer window treatments with ones that are heavier in texture with deeper fall colors. There are several colors to choose from ranging from gold, sage or moss green, sienna or wheat.

  • Swap out lighter decorative pillows with deeper colored ones. Either a solid color or choose a print to coordinate with the fall season - Fall leaves, Colorful Mums etc.

  • Drape cozy throws over the arms or backs of furniture or place a large wicker basket in a corner filled with comfy throws in different colors - solids or plaids - and textures - Chenille, Flannel, Wool.

  • Create a fall centerpiece for the coffee table. Place a pillar candle (gold, orange, tan or dark green) inside a large glass hurricane candle vase; surround the candle with amber colored glass stones.

  • Take it one step further by making your own candle ring. Use a grapevine wreath larger in diameter than the vase, surround the sides and top with fall silk foliage (flowers, leaves, berries etc.) place wreath on table and set the vase inside.

  • Candles just seem to fit with fall decorating, so make sure to use them all over your home. Jar, votive or tea lights in warm scents like spiced apple, pumpkin, cider, cedar or cinnamon will give your home a wonderful aroma. Another way to achieve this is by placing bowls of fall-scented potpourri around the home.

  • More ideas for quick centerpieces are to take wooden, glass or copper bowls then fill with gourds - faux or real - fall leaves, pine cones and berries. Any type of woven basket would also look great.

  • Substitute existing art work with pieces that have a fall theme

  • Drape silk fall leaf garlands around hanging picture frames.

Kitchens:

In most cases the kitchen is the heart of the home so this fall make it a truly warm and cozy place to spend time with family and friends.

  • Covering the dining table with a plaid or solid color tablecloth in fall colors, then adding coordinating placemats and napkins will get you off to a great start with your Fall decor.
  •

  • Wooden bowls or baskets filled with fruit, nuts, gourds or mini pumpkins will add a touch of fall to countertops or as a centerpiece on the table.

  • Faux fruit, gourds and pumpkins are made so life like today it’s hard to tell the difference. This is also cost effective as they are able to be used year after year.
  • Display serving pieces with Fall accents on top of cabinets, countertops or lined up along a shelf.

  • Several pots of autumn flowers set on the table surround by fall leaves also make a pretty centerpiece. Use either live or silk foliage.

  • Drape leaf or berry swags around chandeliers, these swags also look great on top of overhead cabinets.

  • Create vignettes on overhead cabinet tops with pumpkins and gourds. Place several groups of each nestled within leaf or berry swags.

  • Hang colorful fall wreaths on the walls or on the inside of the kitchen door.

  • Hang fall related artwork.

  • Place rugs with a fall print in front of sink and doors leading in and out of the kitchen.

  • Dinnerware with either a fall print or in a solid color will add that cozy feeling to mealtimes.

  • Candles and potpourri in fall scents will give the kitchen a wonderful aroma all day long.

  • Small berry rings hung on the knobs of cabinets and drawers will add an extra punch of fall color.

Bedrooms:

As the bed is the focal point in most bedrooms, start your fall makeover here. Create a bed that just makes you want to climb into at the end of a long day, get cozy and read a book, decorating magazine or watch a little TV.

  • Nothing says warm and cozy better than flannel. A comforter in a solid fall color or plaid and flannel sheets will send you off to sleep in comfort, of course on those chilly mornings you may have a bit of trouble getting out of this warm cocoon.

  • Load up the bed with pillows. Use several different sizes of bed pillows - kings, standard, euro - finish off with decorative toss pillows in different sizes. This gives the bed a cozy comfortable look, plus makes reading in bed a real pleasure with so much padding behind your heard.

  • Pillowcases can be used on extra pillows in place of shams - color changes are easier. Use coordinating colors pulled from the comforter, window treatments and sheets.

  • Finish off the bed with an extra blanket or two - one size smaller than comforter - folded up at the end of the bed. This is perfect for those lazy afternoon naps.

  • Exchange lighter summer curtains with drapes that are deeper in color and texture. Try a layered affect by adding a coordinating shear under the drapes for a cozier look.

  • Add accessories like candles, potpourri and fall floral arrangements to dresser tops and night stands.

  • Swap out art work or hang a fall theme wreath on the closet door.

Bathrooms:

Whether it’s a small powder room or the master bath, give the bathrooms in your home a fall makeover all their own.

  • Change shower curtains, bath mats and towels to something with deeper fall colors - red, gold, green, burgundy - in a solid color or fall related print.

  • Place candles on the sink a shelf or around the tub. Use several sized pillar on a colored plate surrounded with amber colored stones.

  • Limited counter space, try just a couple of tea light or votive holders in a mosaic pattern or an organic look.

  • Bath accessories - toothbrush holder, soap dish etc. - with a leaf, pinecone or berry motif or a solid fall color is a simple way of bringing the fall theme into the bath.

  • Hang a wreath or fall related pictures on the wall.

  • Wrap faux fall leaf or berry swags around mirrors, medicine cabinets, pictures and window treatments.

  • Set a large wicker basket filled with rolled up towels in fall colors in the corner of the room or near the tub.

By spending a little time now getting your home deco ready for Fall will bring many rewards when those temperatures drop and your spending more time indoors.

Decorating Styles

When you decide that you’re ready to decorate or redecorate a room, one of the most challenging choices that you will face is the type of style that appeals to you and that suits your home. After all, it’s hard enough to decide what you’re going to wear for the day let alone what you’ll have to see for the next few years every time you enter your home.
To ensure that you are indeed seeing all of the possible styles for your room or your home, have a look at the information in this article that can help you decide your decorating styles and how to achieve them within your home with colors, furniture, lighting, arrangements, accessories, and other decor details.
FIRST UP—MOROCCAN STYLE
The Moroccan decorating style happens to be very elegant and exotic and it also is one that helps to add a touch of mystery to the feel and look of an interior. There are many vibrant color options available and the same is the case in so far as type of wood goes. The end result will be that the Moroccan decorating style will give your interiors a touch of luxury and it will make your home look more modern as well.

Morocco is a country that has, thanks to its strategic location between Africa and Europe, been influenced by many different cultures. This means that Moroccan decorating style will also reflect this crosscurrent of cultures that combine the best of the east and west as well as that of north and south. France and Portugal and Spain provide their own styles that have been incorporated by Moroccans and this can be seen in their decorative styles.

There are other influences as well including those from Africa and Persia as well as a lot from Islamic countries that surround Morocco in the east and the south. The end result is that you will get to see styles that are Moroccan but which incorporate a lot of different styles from these neighboring countries.

Since Morocco is a very hot country, it is not surprising to note that the Moroccan decorating style use vibrancy of colors and gentleness of lighting to keep things cool inside their homes. Moroccans use very strong colors in their decorations and so typically you will see many shades of blue and green as well as gold and silver and there will also be plenty of rich oranges and reds as well. As for furniture, these are also very unique and typically Moroccan.

The furniture used in the Moroccan decorating style is simple and also very inviting and normally the sofa as well as tables tend to be low in height. For furnishing, Moroccans make use of elaborate wrought iron pieces and the furniture will also have plenty of mother of pearls which are used in inlay work.

In Moroccan decorating style, fabrics tend to be very lush and luxurious and in addition throw pillows are used in abundance and the same is the case with fabrics that are very luxurious.

Moroccans use lighting to create various shades. For example, they will use lamps to give off dim lights and candles also help to create a touch of romance in the interiors. As for floors, Moroccan decorating style demands that these be made from dark colored hardwood which will be covered with plush rugs from Persia.
BUT, I LIKE COUNTRY!
Looking for some fresh country decorating ideas? For many people, country decorating means natural wood walls and earth toned furnishings with stuffed animal heads on the walls. While this is one style of country decorating, there are truly many different ideas that work quite well. This is why you should consider using country decorating ideas with a personal flair.

There are several different styles available that can yield the country look you seek without falling into any stereotype. Here, we will look at some of them to allow you to see what style might be best for you.

The new traditional style decorating with a flair for country involves balance and elegance without becoming so stiff and formal that it makes you feel uncomfortable. Centered around eighteenth century furniture styles, there is a great deal of room for country decorating ideas that involve the use of genuine antiques in this style of decorating. However, if you don't currently own or have the budget for genuine antiques, there are a range of reproductions that can be purchased that are made today, but have the appearance of age and style that is being sought.

Because our culture has been so influenced by other cultures around the world, oriental rugs and vases and European items would fit right in with the new traditional style.

American rustic is a very popular style of country decorating. This style of country decorating ideas makes extensive use of natural wood in walls and floors as well as wooden furniture whenever possible. Accent items are normally antique hand implements that are not produced anymore. Use of cotton and wool in the fabrics of drapes and upholstery is in keeping with this style as is the inclusion of brass, copper, pewter, and tin creations that have been weathered and have taken on a patina of age.

European country is a style that lets you incorporate elements from the lands of his or her ancestors or just from a culture that inspires you. French or Italian elements can include many different items pertaining to the making of wine or the preparation of fine foods. English elements can include flowered chintz, fine porcelain items and books scattered about next to the chairs and sofa for convenient reading.

There are other styles of decorating that make use of country decorating ideas in different manners. Some take modern styles and make them softer and more traditional by changing to softer colors. The key points that tie all these styles together is the use of a blend of "genuine antiques" where possible and reproductions where necessary. Unnecessary clutter is done away with in favor of a more simple, straightforward, and comfortable style.
